Bring festive cheer to your workplace

As soon as it was (partially) acceptable, people have been rushing to put their Christmas decorations up to bring some festivity and light into their homes, to try and create a distraction from the noise and negativity of the outside world and what 2020 has brought into everyone’s lives. So, why shouldn’t there be extra Christmas cheer this year at work, in a way to (try) and end the year on a high with some fun and lots of laughs!

You’re probably thinking how this could be possible if you and your organisation are working from home, but we have done our research and found some fun ideas you can try out.

1. Set up a socially distanced Secret Santa You can still follow company tradition but just need to change around the rules a little bit.

The way you can do this is to organise zoom calls with each individual employee who wants to take part, tell them who they need to buy for and then once they do they will need to deliver to the other employee’s address.

This may seem a bit farfetched but we are sure efforts and ideas like this are exactly what people will need and really appreciate right now!

2. Send out a festive goodie-bag Can’t be together in an office? That’s okay, you can still celebrate together, just virtually with a whole load of fun props!

As a way to give back to your team, use the money that would have gone towards the work Christmas do for a nice goodie bag full of lovely things to eat, drink, wear or read – you choose.

This could include a reindeer headband or Santa hat for those zoom party calls, fancy chocolates, a personalised mug, bottle of wine, cardboard prop for a photo booth shoot and gift voucher.

3. Host an awards ceremony Want a way to get lots of laughs? Set-up awards for silly nominations such as ‘heaviest snacker during zoom meetings’, ‘cutest intruding pet’, ‘dodgiest internet connection’, ‘zoom whizz’ etc… another great way to give people prizes and to feel connected!

4. Go overboard with the Christmas decorations!

Granted, you probably will still have your company scrooge who won’t want any decorations up, but it’s been a tough year, everyone needs a bit of festive cheer in their lives at the moment whether they like it or not. So be extra and add some eco-friendly Christmas lights around the office with some pretty baubles and whatever else you can get your hands on!

Now if you are working from home then why not see this as a great incentive to get people working from home involved as a competition for the ‘Best working from home decorations’. Then when you have your virtual Christmas party, be the judge and award a great gift to who you think did this the best!
