Looking after your well-being this Christmas

The cold and early nights have crept in and these crazy times in the world still do not seem to be coming near to end, like we once thought was possible.

With a second lockdown and consistent scary news and figures flying around it is no wonder that the majority of us are currently wondering how much longer we can really carry on like without feeling like we want to hibernate now and again.

One way to look at this, is the fact that you are not alone.

Individuals all around the globe are taking to the internet to spread their message, check in on people and trying to normalise that this uneasiness we are feeling at the moment, really (and unfortunately) is currently the norm.

Now, nobody is saying that this feeling is and should be okay, as none of us want to live in a state of angst and fear – however, things will be okay and it may not seem like it but things are slowly improving.

So, the reason we wanted to give you a bit of a virtual hug and provide some easy tips that you can apply to your day-to-day to make you feel happier, powerful and content.

Self care

Over the past few months we have released regular content providing guidance and ways to look after number one (which is you).

We are true believers that this is key to living a happy and healthy life, which most times than not gets overlooked.

Everybody is different and has certain ways of feeling pure joy, but we just wanted to throw some ideas at you if you feel like you’re struggling or are just not in the mood to look for yourself.

1. Have a nice, long relaxing bath Throw in just a little too much bubble bath, as well as some bath salts (these have ridiculous benefits such as detoxing and calming effects) and light some candles. In these cold evenings, nothing sounds more cosy and relaxing to us…

2. Embrace nature Give yourself a time in the day to get some fresh air, whether that’s going for a walk or sitting in your garden with a cup of tea or coffee and just taking the time to soak in and appreciate nature and it’s beauty (which has been proven to decrease anxiety and depression).

3. Treat yourself If you have had a tough week and are really feeling it, then have a think about what would make you happy and reward yourself.

This could be a big bar of Galaxy chocolate, cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows or just the time to sit and binge-watch your favourite programme on the TV.

4. Quiet the mind Did you know that there are on average 70,000 thoughts that cross our mind per day.

Imagine how much good it would do to allow your mind to have a break and to just focus on nothing - when we say nothing we mean, no worries about the past or future.

Meditation is a great way to do this and can be done by downloading a free app such as Headspace or simply searching on YouTube.

Alternatively, some people like escaping through reality and quietening their mind by reading fictional books, so they only focus on the story that they are reading.

These are only a handful of possible things you could to focus on you but another point which should not be overlooked is to reach out as soon as you feel you need help or want someone to talk to. But even without the possibility of needing help, just keep in touch with your close family and friends regularly anyway as daily contact with other people boosts your mood and helps you feel like you’re not alone as they are only a phone call, facetime or message away. Also, the internet is full of tonnes of great tips, articles and support systems for you to interact with or have a read of whenever you feel the need to. We hope this has helped you in a way that you feel like you can learn from and take something away!
